Emergency Services and Healthcare
Maintaining adequate emergency equipment and facilities is essential in our communities. The RRRC has provided grant writing services to multiple fire districts within the region to purchase new equipment with the financial assistance from the US Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The purpose of this program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards. This program provides funding of 95 percent of the project costs.
During the 2014 strategic planning efforts, concerns over the lack of adequate staffing and service territories of the emergency service providers were raised. In some areas of the region, such as Nelson County, this concern has rising to an alarming level.
Maintaining adequate healthcare facilities and staff within the region has also become a concern. Several healthcare administrators have engaged contracted employees and have difficulty attracting both professional and direct care staff.
